Mohanlal has been awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019, India’s fourth and third highest civilian honours, for his contribution to Indian cinema. He also became the first actor in the country to be awarded the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army in 2009. Mohanlal’s first film was ‘Manjil Virinja Pookkal’ in which he played the role of a villain. ‘Ram: Part 1’ and ‘Burroughs: Guardian of Da Gama Treasure’ are his upcoming films and are in various stages of post-production.
