After superstar Mammootty hit the headlines for the past two days on account of his 70th birthday, his onscreen arch rival Mohanlal on Wednesday announced that he will team up with Shaji Kailas, one of the first blockbuster directors of Malayalam film, to make a new film. Incidentally, it was Kailas’ mega hit ‘Aaram Thampuran’ (1997) that earned Mohanlal the tag of being the second superstar in Malayalam films after Mammootty. After that mega hit, Lal, as Mohanlal is known in the industry, did not look back as his career reached greater heights in the later years. Soon after ‘Aaram Thampuran’, Lal did several films with Kailas, the last of which – ‘Red Chillies’ – was released in 2009.

However, after that Kailas had to face difficulties. He also tried his hand in Tamil films, although he did not get much success. But after the news of Mohanlal reuniting with Kailash on social media on Wednesday, all eyes are now on Kailas.
“The wait is finally over! It is with great enthusiasm and joy that I announce my next project with Shaji Kailas which will start in October 2021. Written by Rajesh Jayaram and produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Ashirwad Cinemas Me and Shaji are getting together after 12 long years. I am sure it will be worth the wait,” Lal wrote on social media.
This will be the 56-year-old director’s 42nd film in a career that began in 1989.
