Modi government’s Diwali gift to railway employees: 78 days bonus approved

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved productivity linked bonus equal to 78 days’ salary to eligible non-gazetted employees of Indian Railways for the financial year 2020-21.

The move is expected to motivate the employees to work towards improving the performance of Indian Railways.

However, personnel of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) have been excluded from the productivity linked bonus.

This decision is likely to benefit about 11.56 lakh non-gazetted employees of Indian Railways.

The financial implications of payment of 78 days productivity linked bonus to railway employees have been estimated. 1984.73 crores.

The prescribed wage calculation limit for payment of Productivity Linked Bonus to eligible non-gazetted railway employees is Rs.7,000 per month.

The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs. 17,951 for 78 days.

Productivity Linked Bonus is paid every year before Dussehra/Puja holidays to eligible Railway employees.

Accordingly, the decision of the cabinet will be implemented even before this year’s holidays.

For the financial years 2010-11 to 2019-20, the productivity linked bonus amount for 78 days of wages was paid.

The Indian Railways had earlier given 78 days bonus to its around 11.58 lakh non-gazetted employees in 2019-20, taking the total to Rs 2,081.68 crore.
