Mobile phone caught fire on IndiGo’s Assam-Delhi flight, officials say no one was injured

A fire incident on an IndiGo passenger flight was averted on Thursday due to the awareness shown by the crew members. A passenger’s cell phone caught fire mid-air on a Dibrugarh-Delhi flight, but the cabin crew managed to douse it with the help of fire extinguishers.

Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said that no passenger or cabin crew was injured in the incident.

Indigo A320 Neo aircraft VT-IJV operating Flight 6E 2037 was flying from Dibrugarh to Delhi. Officials of aviation regulator DGCA told PTI that a crew member noticed sparks and smoke emanating from a passenger’s phone and then rushed to extinguish it.

After this, the cabin crew members of Indigo Airlines flight 6E 2037 brought the fire under control.

“There was a smoke incident from a mobile device on flight 6E 2037 from Dibrugarh to Delhi. The crew is trained to manage hazardous incidents and they managed the situation quickly. No damage to any passengers or property. No damage done.” A statement from Indigo.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials also said that the aircraft landed safely at the Delhi airport around 12.45 pm on Thursday.
