In a letter sent to all district education officers, sub-divisional education officers and principals of state higher secondary schools on Wednesday, the state school education department has asked all district and school authorities to allow displaced students to enroll in the state. “The recent upheaval in Manipur has led to a massive influx of internally displaced children into Mizoram. It is therefore requested that all district and school authorities allow admission even if they cannot provide proper documents for the children when they seek admission in the schools,” said the letter written by Lalsangliana, director of the education department. The internally displaced people have been kept in temporary relief camps, while many have been given shelter by their relatives.

The Kuki-Mizo-Hamar-Zomi communities in Manipur, collectively known as the Kuki or Zo Hanthlak (Zo tribe), share blood ties with the Mizos in Mizoram.

Mizoram shares a 95 kilometer long interstate border with Manipur.
