Mizoram paper for border talks ready | Guwahati News – Times of India

AIZAWL: The boundary committee, constituted by the Mizoram government on Friday, decided that the “approach paper” prepared by committee should be tabled when the high-level delegations of the two neighbouring states meet in Guwahati in October.
The meeting, chaired by Mizoram deputy chief minister Tawnluia, was attended by home minister Lalchamliana, supplies minister K Lalrinliana, land revenue minister Lalruatkima, forest minister TJ Lalnuntluanga, chief secretary, home secretary, DGP and representatives of political parties, civil societies and student bodies, agreed that a joint verification team representing both the states should be constituted to conduct ground verification of the disputed lands.
Representatives of the political parties, civil societies and student organisations expressed their wishes to find an amicable and permanent solution to the vexed border problems with Assam.
The armed clashes between Mizoram and Assam police personnel on the outskirts of Vairengte on the Assam border on July 26, 2021, which resulted in the death of 5 Assam policemen, compelled the two neighbouring states to speed up the parleys to solve the border imbroglio.
Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga and his Assam counterpart Himata Biswa Sarma had held the first round of talks in Delhi in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah during the last part of November last year when they agreed to continue the talks between themselves or the delegation representing the chief ministers.
