Missouri state senator explains Christmas card of gun-wielding family – Henry’s Club

For one Missouri state senator, Christmas has become somewhat controversial. It is thanks to the picture that his family chose for their holiday card. But, according to the state senator, it was not controversial. “I’ve seen a lot of people do this,” said Sen. Rick Brattin. Brattin admits that his family wasn’t the first to come up with this photo idea for their holiday card. Brattin said, “And it was something that I thought was funny, kinda sends a good message.” The state senator says his message on the card is clear and to the point. “It’s not an insult to anyone. It’s more to send the message about where we stand on the Second Amendment,” Brattin said. The card shows Brattin’s family holding real weapons like shotguns and assault rifles. Even that the smallest group has a gun in their hands. “I would train my kids to know and respect the tool they’re dealing with in a way that doesn’t cause such a tragedy or accident,” Brattin said. The photo comes after two photos of identical Christmas cards with other lawmakers were criticized nationally. Brattin says his card has attracted many critics. “They say it’s not fair or looks like it.” That it’s just trying to create fear,” the MP said, adding that he hopes the picture of his Christmas card will teach more than the controversy, but is confident that not many people will engage. “Some don’t like it. And you’re going to get it with the religious type of card as well,” Brattin said. A former Marine, Brattin said he’d been there all his life. Guns have been around. This is the first time his family has sent a holiday card featuring him.

The state senator says his message on the card is clear and to the point.

“It’s not meant to be offensive to anyone. It’s more to send the message about where we stand on the Second Amendment,” Brattin said.

In the cards, Brattin’s family has real weapons like shotguns and assault rifles. Even the youngest person in the group has a gun in his hand.

“I would train my kids to know and respect the tools they’re working with so that no tragedies or accidents happen,” Brattin said.

The picture comes after two similar photos of Christmas cards with other lawmakers were criticized nationally. Brattin says his card has attracted many critics.

“They say it’s not fair or it looks like it’s just trying to instill fear,” Brattin said.

The MP said he hoped the picture of his Christmas card would spark more education than controversy, but believed many would not connect.

“Some don’t like it and you’re going to get it even with the religious type of card,” Brattin said.

Brattin, a former Marine, said he has been around guns his entire life. This is the first time his family has sent a holiday card featuring him.
