CHENNAI: The fresh cases of Covid-19 rose marginally to 1,568 on Friday, as against 1,562 on Thursday and 1,509 on Wednesday. Fifteen districts, including Coimbatore, Namakkal, Cuddalore and Villupuram, have reported a surge in new cases in the last 24 hours.
Coimbatore, which recorded the highest number of new cases and the fastest growth in the last 24 hours, was also the only district to report more than 200 new cases. The western district reported 239 cases on Friday as compared to 215 cases on Thursday. During the same period it went from 47 to 62 in Namakkal and from 43 to 55 in Cuddalore. Chennai reported the highest number of new cases after Coimbatore, though cases in the district fell to 162 from 166 on Thursday. Erode (125) and Thanjavur (108) were the other two districts reporting more than 100 cases. 98 new cases were reported in Tiruppur, which is more than 90 cases on Thursday.
However, less than 25 cases have been reported in each of the 22 districts of the state and these include Dindigul (9), Theni (9), Tirupathur (7), Perambalur (6), Tenkasi (4), Ramanathapuram (3) and Virudhunagar (3). ) reported cases in single digits.
