Minister inspects Zika virus prevention campaign at Walayar. Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: Health Minister Ma Subramaniam on Tuesday inspected Zika virus prevention activities at the Walayar check post and in small villages bordering Kerala, including Mavuthampathy panchayat. Stopping the breeding of mosquitoes, especially the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, is the only way to keep the Zika virus at bay, he said. He said that at present there is not a single case of Zika virus in the state.
The Minister along with Food Minister R Sakkarapani, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan and Public Health Director Dr TS Selvavinayagam inspected the fever camp at Mavuthampati village near Madukkarai. He also inspected some houses in the panchayat to check the breeding sources of mosquitoes to take forward the virus containment measures.
“We are also creating awareness among the public that Zika virus is transmitted by Aedes aegypti mosquito, which breeds in water sources like plastic utensils, broken utensils, tires and discarded cups,” the minister said.
He also examined the screening of people and vehicles coming from Kerala at the Walayar check post. news network
