Microsoft is refreshing several native desktop apps on the Windows 11 OS with minor changes in terms of new design and features. The latest app that the company is redesigning is the Photos desktop app that lets users view media files as well as some editing tools. The software logo remains the same, and the promotional teaser highlights that users can view multiple photos at once in tile view. The app looks polished, and the updated version will be rolling out to Windows Insider testers soon. It is being said that the stable version of Windows 11 will be rolled out next month.

Interestingly, the Photos window doesn’t have rounded edges – a design language Microsoft Wants to present with apps on the next generation OS. The new Photos desktop app was first teased in August alongside the refreshed MS Paint desktop app. The teaser doesn’t reveal anything on performance, though many Windows users would expect optimizations as the current version runs slow.

Before that, we fresh seen Microsoft Paint on Windows 11 which now comes with a simplified toolbar. The existing Color interface has also been replaced with a similar Fluent header. Colors come inside circles instead of square boxes on Windows 10, and undo/redo buttons now appear next to ‘File’. It looks like Microsoft is replacing the older software to be compatible with touch-enabled PCs, although there are no additional features – at least from the image. Earlier in April, MS Paint appeared on the Microsoft Store, nearly four years after Microsoft announced the development.
