Microsoft finally lets you install PC games to any folder: Here’s how it works

Microsoft has brought good news for PC gamers this week. The company’s Xbox app now lets you install PC games to any folder on your system. This feature comes for those who have Xbox app on Windows 10 or newer Windows 11 operating system. Most users download games from the Windows Store, but are limited to a single folder where the games are installed along with all their files.

Now, the system has been tweaked to help the developers with better backend processes along with user convenience. Microsoft says users also don’t have access to reinstall existing games on their systems for the changes to take effect.

Instead, all you have to do is go to the Xbox app and select Manage for all games, so you can qualify them for the company’s new changes.

New games you install from the Windows Store will give users the option to choose the source folder to download. This new feature is coming via a software update to the Xbox app, which Windows 10 and Windows 11 users should install immediately.

As you might know, before this Microsoft had a fixed place to install games. You had the WindowsApp folder where all the new games along with their files were installed. But letting users install games in any folder allows them to use the space on their system effectively. Now you don’t need to keep all the downloaded games in C: drive of PC.

There’s no doubt that the new option on the Xbox app is Microsoft’s way of doing what Steam has done in the industry for years.
