Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing is inserting ads into chat responses to bring in more traffic for participating publishers and monetize search with ads.

When Microsoft introduced AI-powered Bing based on GPT-4, the world was in awe of what it could do, and how efficiently it answered user queries while establishing context in search results .

Now, according to 9to5Google, Bing is soon going to insert ads into the mix, with participating publishers being able to drive more traffic and monetize search with ads.

Advertising has been part and parcel of the Bing experience, but now ads are being inserted into search results—also generated as Bing Chat responses.

According to a recent tweet by Debargya Das, Bing’s chatbot responses now include embedded advertising links. These links are identified as clickable hyperlinks by the term ‘advertisement’ in the references provided with the response.

“First and foremost, we want to drive more traffic to publishers in this new world of search. It’s a top goal for us, and we measure success partly by how much traffic we’re driving from the new Bing/Edge,” said Yusuf Mehdi of Microsoft.

“Second, we want to grow publishers’ revenue. We want to do this by driving more traffic to them through new features like chat and replies, and by driving the future of advertising in these new mediums, as I’ll tell below.

Currently, the frequency of ads on Bing is not fixed, and they appear inconsistently as Microsoft continues to test this approach.
