Mickey Arthur has reportedly told the PCB chairman that he is, however, willing to work as an advisor to the Pakistan board and also visits the country frequently.

Mickey Arthur has turned down an offer from the PCB to return as head coach of the national team, forcing the board to continue the search for a replacement for outgoing Saqlain Mushtaq.

Pakistan Cricket The board said on Tuesday it was in discussions with Arthur about a new stint as head coach, but the South African would not be able to take up the role immediately as he has a long-term contract with Derbyshire.

“Due to his long-term contract with Derbyshire, we have also discussed with Derbyshire a proposal to act as a consultant to the PCB on a time-sharing basis,” the PCB said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, however, this option is proving difficult to materialize for various reasons on both sides.

“Under the circumstances, the PCB will continue to look for the right person to fit the slot of head coach of the national team and some top names are already being considered.”

A highly placed source in the board told PTI that Arthur is not coming because of the unbelievable atmosphere in Pakistan cricket which he has experienced in the past.

“The truth is that when the PCB chairman, Najam Sethi, opened talks with him and asked him to rejoin as head coach, Arthur said that he would love to work in Pakistan cricket again, but They haven’t had pleasant experiences with the board in the past,” said the source.

“Arthur told Sethi that the PCB management was headed by Ehsan Mani World In 2019 he was assured by the cup that his contract would be extended. But his contract was not honored after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals despite winning four matches in a row.

“Secondly, Arthur also feared that if he terminated his long-term contract with Derbyshire by mutual agreement and decided to come to Pakistan, there was no guarantee that given the climate in Pakistan cricket The contract will be honored.”

The source said that Arthur had told Sethi that he was, however, willing to work as an advisor to the Pakistan board and also visit the country frequently.

“But ultimately this consultation arrangement did not suit the PCB so the talks failed and Mickey is not going to be involved with Pakistan cricket.”

Arthur was brought in as head coach in 2016 when Sethi was on board and served till 2019 when his contract was not extended by the Ehsan Mani-headed management.

Another reliable source said that the contract/tenure of the interim selection committee headed by current head coach Mushtaq and bowling coach, Shaun Tait and even Shahid Afridi will end after the third ODI against New Zealand on Friday.

“Since Pakistan has no international commitments till April, Sethi has two months to finalize a new team management and selection committee for the Pakistan team.”

The source confirmed that Sethi was in talks with two foreign coaches for a long-term contract and it was decided that a foreign coach would now be appointed only for the national team.
