DMRC New Metro Line: In an attempt to provide better connectivity to Delhi-NCR people, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) planned to expand metro connectivity to Haryana with Ghaziabad. This will facilitate better metro connectivity in Haryana, Delhi and UP.
In a significant expansion, the proposed Rithala-Narela corridor is set to stretch all the way to Kundli in Haryana. Notably, it will be the first route of Delhi Metro which will connect Haryana and Ghaziabad through Delhi.
Shaheed Sthal-Rithala corridor expansion
Shaheed Sthal-Rithala corridor expansion is also in the line. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that the Yellow Line’s (Gurugram) extension plan will mark the fourth expansion of the Delhi Metro into Haryana, following the Violet Line (Faridabad) and Green Line (Bahadurgarh) extensions.
Pink Line
This project aims to extend the current Shaheed Sthal-Rithala Red Line corridor, linking Haryana and Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad through Delhi, with the Pink Line already connecting Noida’s Botanical Garden to Haryana.
The initial phase will involve constructing stations designed for four-coach trains, catering to immediate traffic needs, before being upgraded to accommodate eight-coach trains. Spanning a total of 27.319 km and featuring 22 stations, the corridor will comprise 26.339 km of elevated track and approximately 0.89 km at grade level, with 21 elevated stations and one at grade.
Proposed stations
The proposed stations on this route include Rithala, Rohini Sectors 25, 26, 31, 32, 36, Barwala, Rohini Sectors 35, 34, Bawana Industrial Area 1 Sectors 3, 4, Bawana Industrial Area 1 Sectors 1, 2, Bawana JJ Colony, Sanoth, New Sanoth, Depot Station, Bhorgarh Village, Anaj Mandi Narela, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela Sectors 5, Kundli, and Nathupur.
Red Line extension
Additionally, this extension will greatly benefit the Delhi Development Authority’s housing schemes, which have been initiated with over 3,500 flats in Narela. The improved connectivity will significantly enhance the lives of residents in these new housing communities, similar to the positive impact seen with the extension to Dwarka.
Furthermore, this Red Line extension will link the area with the existing operational Red Line, which stretches up to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and covers key locations in Central and East Delhi.
Revisions to the route alignment and station layout have been implemented for all stations. The extended section from Narela to Kundli (5 km) is undergoing topographical surveys, traffic assessments, and environmental impact studies. The Revised Detailed Project Report for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor is anticipated to be finalized by the end of the current month.
