After many rumours, and a sneak peek, Meta CEO Mark Zukcerberg has confirmed that the next Quest headset is coming this October.
On Joe Rogan‘s latest podcast episode, Zuckerberg revealed that Meta’s new Quest headset will debut in October, likely around the company’s annual Connect event. If we were to guess, the headset Zuckerberg is speaking of is none other than the much teased “Project Cambria,” which may be introduced as the Quest Pro.
Last month, Bloomberg reported that the next headset would be called Quest Pro, based on the publications digging into the Oculus app for iPhone.
At the beginning of Rogan’s podcast, Zuckerberg said, “For the next device that’s coming out in October, there are a few big features,” discussing VR.
Zuckerberg further added, “Have your face be tracked so that way your avatar — it’s not just this still thing, but if you smile or if you frown or if you pout, or whatever your expression is, have that translate in real-time to your avatar,” teasing of what company’s next virtual reality headset will be capable of.
Some of the major highlights of Meta’s upcoming mixed-reality headset would be high-resolution internal sensors for eye-tracking, colour display, and pass-through augmented reality might also be one of its features.
The headset will rumouredly be smaller in size than the Quest 2. The mixed-reality headset will be based on Meta’s Presence Platform. If rumours are to be believed, the Quest Pro may cost around $800 (around Rs 63,480).
