Messenger began testing e2e last year and is gradually rolling out to users in select markets.

Meta has introduced new features that will be compatible with the Messenger platform’s end-to-end encryption standard. Messenger got the security layer earlier but its feature set has been limited for a long time. But that now changes with Meta announcing new features that will operate in end-to-end encryption mode.

Messenger works outside the main Facebook app and users can use their existing IDs to log in, even if they don’t have an active Facebook Page. Messenger with E2E now supports the following features:

– Chat Themes

– Chat emoji and reactions

– link preview

– status indicator

You could say that all these features have become standard in most messaging platforms (including META-owned apps), but Messenger didn’t give you these tools when chatting in e2e mode.

Other meta products are also under development. Instagram has got a new Quiet Mode for users that allows them to stay away from the screen and snooze all notifications. WhatsApp will soon allow users to share photos in their original quality and report on the other person’s WhatsApp status.
