Mehul Choksi reaches Antigua and Barbuda to seek medical help

Local media reported that diamantaire Mehul Choksi has landed in Antigua and Barbuda, where he has been living since 2018 after leaving India, after 51 days in custody for illegal entry into neighboring Dominica, which his lawyers claim led to the kidnapping. The plan was Choksi, 62, was granted bail by the Dominica High Court to fly back to Antigua to seek medical help from a neurologist based there.

According to the Antigua Newsroom report, after depositing a surety of EC$10,000, Choksi flew to Antigua in a chartered plane in shirt and shorts.

Seeking bail, Choksi had attached his medical report, including a CT scan, which showed a “mildly worsening hematoma”.

Doctors recommend immediate review of his medical condition by a neurologist and a neurosurgical consultant.

A June 29 CT scan report signed by doctors Yerandi Galle Gutierrez and René Gilbert Veraes from Princess Margaret Hospital in Dominica said, “Services are currently not available on the island (Dominica). All the courtesy given by them is greatly appreciated.” Will go.”

Choksi, wanted in India’s Rs 13,500-crore bank fraud case, went mysteriously missing on May 23 from Antigua and Barbuda, where he has been living as a citizen since 2018.

He was detained in the neighboring island of Dominica for illegal entry after a possible romantic getaway with his rumored girlfriend.

His lawyers alleged that he was kidnapped from Antigua’s Jolly Harbor on May 23 by Antigua and Indian-looking policemen and brought to Dominica on a boat.
