It is “Heck versus Heck” for the coveted Pinthorumkhrah General seat in Shillong in the Meghalaya Assembly elections. While, in Meghalaya, it has been the practice that families stick together and support each other during elections, this electoral battleground is different, with blood relatives locking horns for a seat.

Rocky Heck is contesting on National People’s Party (NPP) ticket against his own uncle and BJP candidate Alexander Lalu Heck.

On Wednesday, Rocky Heck alleged that there has been a lack of development in the constituency. Rocky along with his supporters reached the District Commissioner’s office on Wednesday afternoon to file nomination.

Expressing confidence of defeating his uncle, Rocky said, “We are 100 per cent sure of victory as there is a need for a change in the constituency.” I assure the people that if I get elected, I will do everything possible to get rid of the drug menace which no one is talking about and to uplift the livelihood of the people of the constituency .

Voting in Meghalaya will be held on February 27 and the results will be declared on March 2.

The NPP leader assured to set up a job placement cell for youth and all-round development in the constituency. He also said that there are no proper roads, water supply and street lights, among others.

“Instead of giving Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 to people, I want to improve their livelihood,” Rocky said while assuring the government’s various schemes would be fully implemented.

BJP MLA Alexander Lalu Hek has been representing the Pinthorumkhrah constituency for the last 25 years.

Asked about the decision to contest against his own uncle, Rocky said it was the will of the people of the constituency.

The Pynthorumkhrah General seat became more interesting after sitting MDC PN Syiem, who is also the Congress candidate, threw his hat in the fray.
