Meghalaya government seeks report on number of students vaccinated before reopening of colleges

Ahead of the reopening of colleges, the Meghalaya government has sought a report on the number of vaccinated students above the age of 18 years before taking a call on reopening colleges across the state.

“I have written to the Additional Chief Secretary of Education to all colleges to know how many students above 18 years of age have been vaccinated,” Education Minister Lakhmen Rimbui told reporters on Friday.

“We will study the report,” he said. (We will decide on it) It will be safe to open first college and then school. “

All educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities have been closed for the last three months since April after the second wave of COVID-19 started in the state.

Stating that students have lost so much precious time due to the pandemic, Rimbui said that the department has also seen the difficulties faced by students due to online classes and it is very important to teach in the classroom.

He said that the department is trying its best to strike a balance between health interest and career of the students.

The minister said, “So I want to know the percentage of college students who are 18 years of age and above who have been vaccinated so that we can take a decision on allowing colleges to go ahead and start their offline classes.” “

According to him, the Telangana government had given permission to reopen its schools and there are some states which are in the process of reopening their respective schools.

When asked, Rimbui said that a letter seeking information about the matter would be issued to all colleges by Monday.
