If Hollywood has the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe, at home we have the YRF Spy Universe. The concept of a shared cinematic universe is still comparatively new in Indian cinema and the only three such known ones are the YRF Spy universe, Rohit Shetty’s cop universe and the Lokesh Cinematic Universe in Tamil cinema. It goes without saying that in the scale of production and budget, the YRF Spy Universe is the largest. The latest installment Tiger 3 was released this Diwali to a humongous response. You may think that this universe was the brainchild of Yash Raj Film’s chairman Aditya Chopra but it wasn’t. Let us know about the man behind it

The Spy Universe franchise, which earns billions, is the creation of Sridhar Raghavan, who has also been associated with the longest-running superhit TV show CID. It is true that the seeds of the franchise were sown with Ek Tha Tiger in 2012 but it was not until Pathaan this year that the shared universe itself was created. Only with Pathaan was the official logo of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe created.

When Sridhar Raghavan was writing War, starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, with the script of Pathaan already on his mind, he pitched to the studio the idea of weaving the stories of Kabir, Tiger and Pathaan into one shared universe. Raghavan thus acted as one of the creators of the universe by developing stories that brought together the worlds of the three heroes. It was also he who suggested the much-hyped cameos in Pathaan and Tiger 3.

Sridhar Raghavan has also been a part of the famous show CID. He has been the screenwriter and creative producer of the show. He worked in this show for 3 years for 91 episodes. Apart from Tiger 3, War and Pathaan, he has worked as a writer in films like The Night Manager, Shiddat and Apharan.
