Meet Rinku Rahi, who was shot 7 times by goons, cracked UPSC in her last attempt

Since it was his last attempt at cleaning upsc civil services exam, Rinku Rahi is at the seventh position to make it to the selection list. He secured 683 rank in the recruitment examination. The officer is a resident of Hapur city of Uttar Pradesh. In 2008, he committed Rs 100 crore scholarship scam in Muzaffarnagar. At that time he was working as an officer in the State Social Welfare Department.

He was shot seven times. Three bullets hit his face, leaving his face badly damaged. He also became blind in one eye and lost his hearing. He also said that it was his condition that gave him the will power to appear in the UPSC exam. He thought of choosing the Civil Services Examination to strengthen himself along with bringing a change in the society.

Due to his injury, he came under special category and got age relaxation to appear in the examination. In 2021, Rinku had the last chance to clear the exam and find a path of her choice, and she passed it. “When I was fighting for my life in the hospital, I was not fighting the system. The system was fighting me. I was in the hospital for four months, but my medical leave is still ‘pending’ for clearance,” he told a leading news daily.

Aruna, who hails from Tumkur district of Karnataka, is the third of five siblings. Aruna’s father committed suicide in 2009 while she was pursuing her engineering studies. His father ended his life as he was unable to pay the mounting debt for the education of his five children.

Achieving success in the civil services was not Aruna’s first goal. She had initially intended to get an engineering degree and a simple job, but life had different plans for her. “I had no dream of clearing the UPSC exam. I just wanted to be an independent woman who could earn Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000. My father took it as a challenge to make his daughters independent. But during my engineering course, I lost my father because of the loan taken to provide me education. After his death I felt like giving back to the society. I wanted to find the lost smile of my father by serving the farmers of my country,” she told News18.com.
