Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident took place after a tussle between the car driver and the truck driver, following which the latter overtook and pushed the car for several metres.

A 22 wheeler container truck hit a car and dragged it for some distance in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut late last night. Visuals of the car being pushed by the truck are going viral on social media.

The four occupants of the car jumped out in time and narrowly escaped without any major injuries.

News18 has learned that the incident took place after an altercation between the car driver and the truck driver, following which the latter overran and pushed the car several metres.

Meerut police have registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in this matter and the matter is being investigated. The truck driver has been taken into custody.

The incident comes two days after three people, including two brothers, were killed when a truck collided with a ‘baghi’ (horse-drawn carriage) in Meerut in the early hours of last Saturday.

According to the police, the accident took place around 3:00 am on Saturday when five people were returning from a wedding procession in a wagon, which collided with a speeding truck.

The deceased have been identified as Sitaram (45), Taufiq (20) and Ahjaz (24), while Naved and Ravi were injured in the accident. PTI Jitendra Kumar Dubey, SHO of Incholi police station told.

The horse pulling the cart also died in the accident.

The SHO had said that the injured have been admitted to the hospital, while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem.

Dubey said Sitaram’s son Pradeep has lodged a complaint with the police that five people, including his father, were coming on a ‘baggi’ from a wedding procession, which collided with a speeding truck.
