Dharamsala and McLeodganj have been popular tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier it used to take at least 45 minutes to travel by road between the two places. Also, during the peak tourist season, this travel time between the two tourist hotspots will increase due to traffic bottlenecks.
But with the opening of the mono-cable detachable ropeway, the journey has taken an exciting turn.
This simple easy fast mode of transport (which reduces the distance of 9 kms and saves 40% travel time) is made possible by the Tata Group. Taking to the Instagram handle, the Tata group announced the good news of this transformative ropeway. Under his initiative the 1.8 km long Dharamsala Skyway, an aerial ropeway project has been developed to ‘change travel’ between Dharamsala and McLeodganj.
This ropeway, which has been built in a private-public partnership by TRIL Urban Transport Pvt Ltd, reportedly has a capacity to carry 1000 passengers per hour per direction. Built in a budget of 207 crores, it has two stations and 10 towers. The Mono Cable Detachable Gondolas system has 18 gondolas (cabins). The topmost station is opposite the Dalai Lama Temple in McLeodganj.
The cost of one-way journey per person in the ropeway will be Rs 300; While there is a two-way tariff of Rs 500 per person.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur inaugurated the Dharamshala Skyway project on January 19, 2022. Though it was suspended from January 25, it will be resumed soon.
