NASHVILLE, Tenn.: Midfielder Weston McKennie did not dress for a World Cup qualifier against Canada on Sunday night after the team violated COVID-19 regulations.
McKennie, who plays for Juventus, started an opening 0-0 draw in El Salvador on Thursday night and is among the top American players.
Unfortunately, I have been suspended for tonight’s match due to a breach of team COVID-19 protocol, McKennie said in a statement posted to Instagram. I am sorry for my actions. I will be very happy for the boys tonight and hope to be back with the team soon.
