New Delhi: In this election of Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Congress has won 9 seats. In this election, out of 9 candidates, 6 Muslim candidates of Congress had won. Among them is Shagufta Chowdhary Zubair, who won easily with a margin of 15, 193 votes, the second biggest victory in the elections. Other Muslim candidates and their wards are – Sabila Begum – Mustafabad, Ward 243; Nazia Khatoon – Brijpuri Ward 245; Zarif- Kabirnagar, Ward 234; Sameer Ahmed- Shastri Park, Ward 213; Nazia Danish- Zakir Nagar, Ward 189; Ariba Khan- Abul Fazal, Ward 188. Other two candidates who won from INC are Mandeep Singh- Nihar Vihar Ward 47 and Sheetal- Aya Nagar, Ward 157.
Most of the candidates from political families won in the Delhi civic elections, while the richest candidate lost. Three former mayors of Delhi won in their wards, while one former mayor of North Delhi lost in Civil Lines. Aale Mohammad Iqbal, son of AAP MLA Shoaib Iqbal, defeated Congress’s Mohammad Hamid by 17,134 votes, the highest margin of victory. Iqbal got 19,199 votes while Hamid got 2,065 votes. Shagufta Chowdhary, daughter-in-law of former Seelampur MLA Mateen Ahmed, won by 15,193 votes, the second highest margin of victory. AAP’s Preeti defeated Delhi BJP Vice President Aditya Jha’s wife Sunika Sharma by 2643 votes from Dilshad Colony seat.
AAP’s Ashu Thakur defeated BJP’s Kanchan Chowdhary from Chittaranjan Park seat with the lowest margin of 44 votes. Chowdhary is the daughter of former corporator Subhash Badhana. Kunwar Arjun Pal Singh Marwah, son of former Jangpura MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah, who recently joined BJP, defeated AAP’s Subhash Malhotra in Lajpat Nagar ward. From Chandni Chowk ward, AAP MLA Pawandeep Sahni’s son Punardeep Sahni defeated BJP’s Ravinder Kumar by 1,216 votes. Joginder, son of former Congress MLA Balram Tanwar, lost by 4,000 votes from Bhati ward. In Tigri, AAP’s MLA Prakash Jarwal’s wife and AAP’s Jyoti Prakash Jarwal defeated BJP’s Meera by 6,191 votes.
Ariba, daughter of former Okhla Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Khan, won from Abul Fazal Enclave, while Mandeep, son of former Nangloi MLA Bijender Singh, won from Nihal Vihar ward. In Sultanpuri A, the lone transgender candidate, Bobi of AAP defeated Varuna Dhaka of Congress by 6,714 votes. Dhaka is the daughter-in-law of Jaikishan, former MLA from Sultanpur Majra. In the Civil Lines ward, former North Delhi mayor Avtar Singh and former BJP mayor Raja Iqbal Singh defeated AAP’s Antul Kohli by 577 votes.

Former mayor Narendra Chawla’s wife Urmila Chawla won from Janakpuri West ward, while former South Delhi mayor Kamaljit Sehrawat defeated AAP’s Sudha Sinha by 6,877 votes. Former women mayors Neema Bhagat and Satya Sharma also won. Shalini Singh, a former Mrs India who also served in the Indian Army, lost to BJP’s Ram Niwas in Dwarka A by 1,755 votes. BJP’s Ram Dev Sharma, the richest candidate to contest the MCD polls, lost to AAP’s Mohd Sadiq by 11,626 votes in Ballimaran. In Shastri Nagar, BJP’s Manoj Kumar Jindal defeated AAP’s Babita by 12,209 votes.
