Margao-Sanvordem double track gets approval from railway safety body. Goa News – Times of India

Routes: The commissioner of Railway Safety (CSR) for commissioning of the newly constructed double track Margao-Chandor-Kurchoram (Sanvordem) route of South Western Railway (SWR) has approved the authorization for its inauguration.
“The CRS has authorized the opening of commercial services of passenger and goods traffic on the newly constructed double-line section between Margao and Sanvordem,” Anish Hegde, chief public relations officer of South Western Railway, Hubli division, told TOI.
The CRS had carried out trolley inspection of the double track Madgaon-Kurchoram section on 23 September and also conducted a speed trial run on the route. During the trial run, the train ran at a speed of 124 kmph.
However, the CRS has authorized a sectional speed of 90 kmph on the Margao-Karachoram route, Hegde said.
“The track geometry in the newly constructed double-track route by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited is of high quality and meets all accepted standards. The authorized sectional speed of 90 kmph for section opening is the highest as compared to other sections opened in recent years,” said a senior railway official associated with the track-doubling work on Tinaghat-Vasco project of SWR.
Sources said the CRS has allowed the sectional speed to be increased to 100 kmph subject to certain conditions. To increase the sectional speed to 110 kmph, sources said, the railways needs to take the approval of the CRS after complying with certain conditions mentioned in the authority and after submitting the results of certain track monitoring runs.
“There is no adverse remark in the CRS inspection report. There are some observations made by CRS which mainly pertain to engineering, signaling and general parameters for safe operation of trains. These are to be followed by RVNL, which we otherwise also do as a routine part of track operation and maintenance,” Hegde said.
The Margao-Chandor-Sanvordem section is likely to be commissioned by October 10.
