Marco Jensen didn’t think about IPL and put country first: Ashwell Prince praises young pacer for not holding back against Jasprit Bumrah

Former South African opener Ashwell Prince heaped praise on young pacer Marco Jensen for not holding back in his fight against Bumrah. Johnson and Bumrah had a heated argument during the second Test in Johannesburg which became the highlight of the match. Jensen targeted Bumrah with a barrage of short deliveries that didn’t result in a duck and instead went for his shots while staring and exchanging words with the 21-year-old left-arm pacer.

After countering one on his right hand, Bumrah flicks his shoulder to stare at Jensen in a clear repost. Another bouncer followed which hit the Indian on the helmet. Bumrah clarified that he was not impressed by Janssen’s methods and had few words for him.

Interestingly, both the fast bowlers played for the same franchise in IPL 2021 – Mumbai Indians. Whereas, Bumrah has been retained by the five-time IPL champions while the young Proteas pacer will enter the auction.

Prince lauded Janssen for putting his country on their relationship in the IPL in the fight against Bumrah.

“Another thing that I especially liked during the #SAvIND series is that #MarcoJansen didn’t hold back even once in a fight with Bumrah! He didn’t think about IPL and how it might affect his relationship with the people there. He put his country first, as it should be, ”the Prince wrote on his official Twitter profile.

Jansen took 19 wickets in his first series and troubled the Indian batsmen with his disciplined bowling.

The former batsman further said that the game is about competition and not about bank balance which is a lesson for the youth.

“Well done kid, never change. You are you and if people can’t respect you for being you, being competitive, putting your country first. That’s their problem. About sports competition It’s about not giving an inch and maintaining the spirit of the game. Not about bank balance. #lesson2yoth” said Prince.

South Africa won the Test series 2–1 with a 7-wicket win in Cape Town. Both the teams will now be involved in a three-match ODI series starting from January 19.
