Marathi actress Ketki Chitale gets bail in 2020 Atrocities Act case

Marathi actress Ketki Chitale was granted bail by a Thane court on June 16 on a surety of Rs 25,000 in the 2020 caste atrocities case. Ketki has made headlines since his arrest last month and has been in jail for over a month in two separate cases.

Chitale has been granted bail by the Thane district sessions court in a caste atrocity case registered against him at the Rabale police station in March 2020. Chitale had allegedly made objectionable remarks about minority communities, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mata Ramabai Bhimrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. Jyotiba Phule.

However, the controversial actress will not get immediate relief and will remain in jail for at least five more days. This is because Chitale is in judicial custody in Thane jail in connection with an objectionable Facebook post against Sharad Pawar. The bail hearing in this case is to be held on June 21.

Ketki attracted the ire of NCP workers after he shared a post on the social media platform which purportedly called Sharad Pawar a liar, jealous of Brahmins, suffering from cancer due to corruption and going to hell. Though Pawar was not named in the post, NCP workers staged protests against him across the state and several cases were registered.

Ketki was accused of defamation, printing or engraving a case of defamation and promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste. The 30-year-old actress was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

As per reports, Chitale has now filed a fresh petition before the Bombay High Court, seeking an order to declare his May 14 arrest by the Kalwa police as illegal and in violation of the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court.
