Many doubts arose while sitting outside but ‘Hundred’ helped me get selected: Jemima Rodrigues

India batsman Jemima Rodrigues had doubts in her mind before returning as the first ‘hundred’ during a gloomy season, which became a step towards her return of 49 in the first T20 International against Australia .

Jemima scored three half-centuries for Northern Super Chargers in the ‘Hundred’, helping them gain confidence after series failures against South Africa and England at home.

“There is a lot to learn, but it was not an easy time for me. A lot of talk is happening sitting outside, I had a lot of doubts sitting outside, but I am grateful to be a part of this team. If not for a hundred, I don’t think I would have even been selected to play for India,” Jemima said after her 36-ball knock, which included seven fours.

The 21-year-old did not hide his disappointment at not being picked for Tests and ODIs.

“To be honest, no player would be disappointed if I was not picked for the ODIs, especially when I knew I was batting well and in good form. But in the end, I’m ready for what the team wants, and if the team was finding the right balance, I’m happy to sit out,” she said.

Jemimah feels she has matured now and doesn’t want to rush.

“I think it was a matter of waiting for the right time. I realize it now. I don’t want to rush things. I know when it comes to me,” Rodrigues said in a post-match press conference. No one can stop it and when it comes, something big will happen.”

The team has big hitters like Shafali Verma, Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur and the coaching staff has assigned a specific role to the pint-sized batsman.

“Ramesh sir and (SS) Das sir told me that my role as an anchor is to get singles-doubles, find odd boundaries and play with a good strike rate. Regarding formats, I was ready for Tests, ODIs, but in the end, it is important that India find the right balance.

There were no scars to guess that running under her belt was a relief, but more importantly, being out in the park for India meant more to the vibrant Mumbai woman.

She said, “I was happy to be back there after such a long time, I waited a long time for this.” “Sitting outside watching everyone play, sometimes you think ‘when will my time come’.

“Today when the opportunity came, I was just enjoying it. I’m not too disappointed that I didn’t get a half-century because I know a lot of runs are coming.”
