Manmohan of Haryana gave new life to 5: The family donated organs when they were brain-dead, made a green corridor and took their hearts from Chandigarh to Delhi

Manmohan Singh, 45, a resident of Yamunanagar in Haryana, has given new life to 5 people before saying goodbye to the world. Manmohan Singh was brought to Chandigarh PGI 7 days ago after being a victim of a road accident. Despite his best efforts, the doctors could not save him. After this the doctors persuaded Manmohan Singh’s family for organ donation. His heart, both kidneys, liver and corneas of both eyes were transplanted to different patients. New life was given to a patient by making his heart a green corridor and sending him to AIIMS Delhi.

Accident happened while on duty
Manmohan Singh was on his way to duty on 7 November when his bike met with an accident on the way. He was admitted to a local hospital immediately after the accident. He was referred to Chandigarh PGI on 9 November after his condition deteriorated after two days due to a head injury. Manmohan Singh was declared brain-dead by the PGI doctors on 12 November. During this, the doctors talked to Manmohan Singh’s family about donating his organs, then the family agreed.

‘Heart’ transported to Delhi AIIMS by flight
A day after doctors declared Manmohan Singh brain-dead, his heart was sent to AIIMS Delhi for transplant from Chandigarh PGI at 3 pm on November 13. It was made a green corridor from Chandigarh International Airport and was transported through Vistara Airlines flight to Delhi AIIMS for the admitted patient. After the heart transplant, now Manmohan’s heart is beating properly in the patient’s body.

Both the kidney, liver and both the corneas were installed in Chandigarh only.
Professor Vipin Kaushal, nodal officer of Chandigarh PGI said that on Sunday, a kidney and liver of Manmohan Singh were transplanted in the body of a patient in Chandigarh PGI. Similarly, his second kidney was transplanted in another patient. In two other patients, Manmohan Singh’s corneas were transplanted. Prior to this process, the Regional Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (ROTO) of PGI took approval from the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTO).
