Manipur ambush: 7 of Colonel, his wife and son killed by terrorists in Churachandpur

New Delhi: Militants on Saturday attacked the convoy of the commanding officer of the Assam Rifles unit in Singhat sub-division of Churachandpur district of Manipur. According to the police, a colonel of the Assam Rifles, his family members and three jawans were killed in a massive ambush by unidentified terrorists.

The officer’s family members along with the Quick Response Team (QRT) were in the convoy when the terrorists ambushed them. Sources close to news agency IANS said the driver of the colonel’s vehicle was also shot, taking the total death toll to seven.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the attack and said that the perpetrators would be brought to justice soon.

So far no terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Police said the incident took place near Sehken village when heavily armed militants opened fire on the convoy of an Assam Rifles colonel, killing him, his wife, his son and three QRT jawans on the spot.

Even Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the cowardly attack and said that the state forces and paramilitary forces are already on their job to nab the terrorists.

Militants attacked the convoy when the Colonel of the 46th Battalion of the Assam Rifles was on his way to oversee a civilian action program at Churachandpur, bordering Myanmar.

Police and security forces have started a massive search operation to nab the terrorists.
