Lyca Productions announced that Ponniyin Selvan: 2 would also be released in 4DX format, making it the first South Indian film to do so.

After last year’s success of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1, the sequel of the film is all set to hit the theaters on April 28. Production house Lyca Productions announced that Ponniyin Selvan: 2 will also release in a different style. 4DX format, making it the first South Indian film to do so. Sharing the news on Twitter, the production house tweeted a poster which read, “First South Indian film to release in 4DX.”

The first Indian film to be released using the 4DX format was Ayan Mukerji’s directorial Brahmastra Part: Ek which released the previous year.

The 4DX format has been used by several Hollywood films such as Wicked Chapter 4, Shazam: Fury of the Gods and the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. For those unaware, 4DX is a system with various forms of practical effects including strobe lights, motion seats, and simulated snow. This model presents movies in both stereoscopic 3D and 2D formats.

Coming back to Ponniyin Selvan 2, the film features a stellar star cast including Vikram, Jayam Ravi. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and Karthi, among others. It is one of the biggest productions of Tamil cinema till date.

The story of the historical drama is based on the tug of war between the Chola dynasty and the royal families for the empire. It depicts the childhood of the Chola prince Arunmozhi Varman, who later became the famous emperor Rajaraja. The film is based on the epic novel of the same title by Kalki Krishnamurthy.

The music of the film is composed by AR Rahman while the cinematography is handled by Ravi Varman.
