The district administration has directed the temple committees to take the initiative through the concerned taluk health officers to set up vaccination centers in the temple premises for the devotees who come without getting the vaccine.
Deputy Commissioner Dr KV Rajendra said that the temples should organize Dussehra in a very simple manner and ensure that the COVID-19 test positivity rate does not increase in the district.
“The devotees should be allowed to enter the temples only if they show the vaccination certificates for both the doses. The health department will arrange a vaccine center in the temple premises. The public should not gather in large numbers during the festival,” he said, adding that processions and public gatherings would not be allowed during the festival.
“All programs that violate social distancing have been banned. Temple committees should take permission from their respective local bodies. Cultural programs can be organized by restricting the entry of people up to 50% of the seating capacity of the auditoriums. Festival committees make arrangements for live broadcasting through various mediums for the convenience of the people. Similarly, temples should install digital display screens so that devotees can watch rituals and programs from a distance. DC said.
The tiger dance, which is closely associated with the Navratri festival in the coastal district, is permitted with riders. The DC said that tiger dance troupes should ensure social distancing while performing in temples and public places.
“Official teams will be deployed in the temple premises to monitor the violation. Fines will be imposed on those who violate the fair treatment of Kovid. Further action will also be taken under sections of Karnataka Disaster Management Act, Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act and IPC,” he warned.
