New Delhi: Premier League club Manchester United handed over a leadership role to Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes on 20 July. The 28-year-old replaces defender Harry Maguire, who was stripped of the captaincy by manager Erik ten Haag.

“As captain, two-time Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year will continue to set the highest standards throughout the team to steer United to success in the 2023-24 season and beyond,” the statement further added.

Fernandes was born on 8 September 1994 in Maia, Porto, Portugal and has had an illustrious career in football. He plays as an attacking midfielder for Manchester United and has represented the Portuguese national team. He has played in various positions throughout his career, including center and right midfield, and was once used as a second-choice substitute on the right wing by Ten Haag.
