Congratulatory messages from various walks of life continue to pour in for Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni after being crowned IPL champions on Monday.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin tweeted a congratulation after Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on Monday registered their name on the IPL trophy for a record fifth time in Ahmedabad.

Following Chennai’s win over Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller, Stalin heaped praise on Dhoni, calling the former Indian skipper “a man who plans for every situation”.

His tweet also had a special mention for Ravindra Jadeja, whose last-gasp heroics helped Chennai seal a five-wicket win in a summit showdown.

“Congratulations to the yellow brigade of CSK on their 5th IPL trophy, with a plan for every situation, MS Dhoni. This is cricket at its best and Jadeja who defied adversity and pulled off a historic win for CSK,” tweeted Stalin.

Soon after Stalin’s tweet came to light, fans urged the Chief Minister to organize a grand felicitation ceremony for Dhoni as well as the entire Chennai team at their home venue- Chepauk to mark the historic win.

Some even requested a trophy procession in the city of Chennai.

Not only the CM, but Chennai’s historic IPL win also earned praise from Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Extending hearty congratulations to the Chennai team, Udhayanidhi tweeted, “Stunning captaincy by MS Dhoni and a brilliant finish by Ravindra Jadeja sees CSK register their stellar performance yet again in the IPL 2023 final.”

After winning the toss in Ahmedabad, Chennai captain Dhoni asked GT to bat first.

Courtesy a heroics from Sai Sudarshan and a crucial half-century from Wriddhiman Saha, Gujarat put up 214 on the board. Sudarshan missed out on his maiden century by four runs and was the top performer for the defending champions with 96 off 47 balls.

Just after Chennai started the chase, suddenly, heavy rain interrupted play at the Narendra Modi Stadium once again.

After getting the go-ahead from the officials, the match resumed around midnight when the overs were shortened and Chennai were given a revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway started brilliantly to lay a solid foundation to chase down the mammoth target. Then Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dubey and Ambati Rayudu played their part and kept Chennai in the match till the last over.

The crowd was on the edge of their seats when Chennai needed 13 runs in the final over with Ravindra Jadeja and Dube at the crease. Gujarat fast bowler Mohit Sharma made it difficult for the batsmen by giving just 3 runs in the first four balls.

But Jadeja turned GT’s dice in two balls.

He sent the final ball into the crowd with a brilliant hit before registering the winning boundary off the last ball to register a fairy-tale ending.
