Man who opened fire during Jahangirpuri violence arrested, says Delhi Police

New Delhi: A 28-year-old man, who was seen firing during violence in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, was arrested on Monday.

Police said that the accused has been identified as Sonu alias Imam alias Yunus, a resident of C-Block, Jahangirpuri.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Usha said, “A video was being circulated on social media platforms on Sunday, which showed a man in a blue shirt setting ablaze during the riots in Jahangirpuri. He was arrested in North-West district. The special staff of the Rangnani was quoted by PTI in its report.

Clashes broke out between two communities during Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri on Saturday, in which eight police officers and a local were injured.

The main accused in the violence have been identified as Ansar and Aslam. He was sent to one-day police custody by a local court on Monday, news agency ANI reported.

In addition, a 36-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly supplying bottles used for stone pelting during clashes in Jahangirpuri.

Hameed is a scrap dealer who lives in Jahangirpuri. The Delhi Police has so far arrested 22 people and arrested two juveniles in connection with the incident.

Rangnani said, “During the investigation, another accused Sheikh Hameed was arrested in connection with the case. During interrogation he told the police that he had supplied bottles, which were used for stone pelting during the clashes. “

Mohammad Aslam, who opened fire injuring a Delhi Police sub-inspector, is among the total number of arrests made so far in connection with the incident. The pistol of the accused was recovered from his possession while carrying out the crime.

An FIR was registered on Saturday under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 147 (rioting) of the Indian Penal Code in connection with the incident, and provisions of the Arms Act.

Heavy deployment of police in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri

Officials on Monday claimed that a large number of security officials, including anti-riot forces, have been deployed in the violence-hit areas of North West Delhi’s Jahangirpuri.

According to a senior official, over 500 police officers and six more police companies have been deployed in the area round the clock.

“A total of 80 tear gas shells and water cannons have been deployed. Drones are also being used for rooftop surveillance in sensitive areas. All senior officers have been alerted to avoid any untoward incident,” the official said. Have been instructed to stay on the spot.” PTI reported.

Speaking to a television news channel, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said, “We have deployed sufficient force not only in Jahangirpuri but also in other areas.
