BHUBANESWAR: A man on Monday stabbed his friend to death in Bhimtangi area of Bhubaneswar and later attempted suicide at his house.
He was also allegedly planning to kill the woman’s three-year-old son. Fortunately, the child was not present at home at the time of the murder.
The person has been identified as Jagannath Pradhan (34), while the deceased has been identified as Priyanka Priyadarshini Sahu (32).
Pradhan, who cut his veins after consuming poison after Priyanka’s murder, was taken to the hospital Rajdhani Hospital in critical condition. The motive of the attack is not yet known.
The incident happened when Priyanka’s husband, RakeshHere the workers in a private company were away from home. Priyanka was alone as her three-year-old son had gone to his landlord’s flat on the first floor when Pradhan went to meet her around 11 am.
Rakesh said that he has got a call WhatsApp Number from unknown number. The caller told him about the murder of his wife after which Rakesh immediately called him up. House To check the owner, the police said.
“The door was locked from inside. When we broke open the door, we found the woman and the accused lying on the floor covered in blood. Rakesh immediately reached the house and informed the police,” said the owner of the house, requesting anonymity.
Police said the headman, who ran a roadside eatery in Jajpur, killed the woman following an altercation. Police said the deceased and the accused were residents of Jajpur district and knew each other, but their relationship turned sour recently.
“Pradhan had made a proper plan to kill the woman and her child. We have seized a note written by Pradhan in which he has written that he wanted to kill Priyanka and her son. But he did not give the reason for his anger. Fortunately, the child survived as he had gone to the landlord’s flat upstairs when the murder took place,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Uma Shankar Dash said.
He said, ‘Pradhan first attacked the woman with a sharp weapon. After this he consumed poison and cut off his hand. He is stable. His statement has been recorded. He had confessed his crime.”
The couple, who got married about seven years ago, was living here on rent for the last three years. The house owner and neighbors expressed ignorance about Pradhan. “Neither did we know the man, nor have we ever seen him in his house. We were not present at home on Sunday. We returned on Monday morning and took our house keys from Priyanka. That person (Pradhan) was not present in his house at that time.”
