A man has been booked under the stringent Public Safety Act for allegedly uploading a video in which he justified the killing of Kashmiri television artist Amrin Bhat by terrorists, police said on Saturday. He said, “Taking strict action on anti-social elements, police in Budgam has booked a hater under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for justifying the murder of a female artist and spreading hatred by uploading a video on social media. A case has been registered.”

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Irfan Bhat, a resident of Takia Wagura in Baramulla. On May 25, Amrin Bhat was shot dead by terrorists in Hashru-Chadura, Jammu and Kashmir.

“The act of uploading such disgusting videos and justifying the killing of artist Amrin Bhat on a YouTube channel has created fear and intimidation not only in the section of people performing arts but also among their family members . Moreover, this act has a tendency to sensitize more people to such attacks apart from supporting terrorist acts,” the police spokesperson said.

Police said Mohammad Irfan Bhat has been detained and lodged in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Jail.
