NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old man was allegedly lynched by a group of men on suspicion of mobile theft in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area. The police gave this information on Thursday.
Shabbir Khan was hit with bricks late Tuesday night and was found unconscious outside Central Park. He was taken to a hospital where he died on Wednesday, a senior police officer said.
In the police control room, information was received that a person was lying unconscious outside the park in Trilokpuri. Police said Khan was taken to LBS Hospital and there were injury marks at five places on his body.
He was referred to GTB Hospital for further treatment as his condition was critical but he died, said Priyanka Kashyap, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), adding that a case of murder has been registered.
During investigation, one of the accused, Keshav (25), was identified from the footage of the CCTV camera and arrested from his residence in Trilokpuri, he said.
Police said those who attacked Khan were drunk and they suspected him of stealing the phone and trying to escape.
Kashyap said that during interrogation, Keshav revealed that he was walking along with five to six friends on the day of the incident, when they found Khan walking in the park around 3 am.
Suspecting the phone to be stolen, they attacked him. Though Khan tried to resist, they hit him with bricks, police said
Apart from Keshav, one other person has also been arrested in the case. He said efforts were on to nab the rest.
