New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress chief for the first time after defeating the BJP with a thumping majority in the West Bengal Assembly elections in May. Mamata Banerjee On July 21, she is taking her first step to reach out to the people outside the state.

She will be in Delhi for five days during the monsoon session of Parliament from July 25 to 30. During her stay here, the Bengal Chief Minister has planned to meet leaders of other parties and mark her presence in the national capital. To reach beyond Bengal, with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The TMC chief is clearly set to play a role at the national level.
TMC anti-BJP opposition parties are likely to come together in Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session starting July 19.
Banerjee’s July 21 speech will be delivered virtually through large video screens, as the coronavirus pandemic has halted a rally on the ground, but for the first time it will be addressed to people from outside the state – Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, Assam and a few others – keeping an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when the TMC chief is expected to play a role at the national level.
The fierce battle for Bengal last March-April had turned the campaign for the assembly elections in the state into a (Narendra) Modi vs Mamata (Banerjee) match.
It had also seen other opposition leaders from different states coming in their support for campaigning against the BJP during the elections. Since his victory over the BJP, the TMC chief has been hailed as a key opposition leader who can take on the ruling BJP at the Centre.
TMC plans to put up huge screens outside TMC offices for Mamata Banerjee’s address in some states, including Uttar Pradesh and Tripura.
“This time, the event will be shown on a huge screen at TMC’s office in Delhi. Our party MPs will be present there as Parliament session is starting from July 19. Our party supporters in Delhi will campaign in Delhi, highlighting this programme,” said Rajya Sabha MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy.
Senior Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy said, “Everyone in India knows that Mamata Banerjee stands for development and people want to listen to her because everyone knows she is the only one who can defeat the BJP.”
