Mamta presented ‘wrong’ information in front of Modi, presented ‘evidence’ directly in front of Dhankhar

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made several allegations against Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a function at the new campus of the Chittaranjan National Cancer Institute here yesterday. One of those allegations was that the governor had questioned the various appointments of Mamata Banerjee. Despite the demands of the Chief Minister, all these appointments are following the path shown by the Prime Minister. The governor made a tweet with ‘evidence’ to refute Mamata’s claim.

On Friday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told the Prime Minister, ‘You have advised us that people from outside can be hired to do the work. We have done this in obedience to your word. But the Governor asked me why I have made this appointment. He asked me about the process. He did not know that the Prime Minister had done this, so we did it on his advice. If there is no officer, what can be done? That’s why we work by following the path shown by the center. Whatever our (centre-state) political views, we do what we can. I do 99 percent.

In the wake of Mamata’s remarks, the Governor tweeted last night that Mamata’s demand to the Prime Minister is factually incorrect and unfair. He tagged the prime minister and chief minister and then posted scanned copies of several documents. He wrote, ‘It is unexpected for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to give such false information. I am publishing these letters (photos posted) publicly. This letter was written on behalf of the Governor. No reports of widespread irregularities in recruitment have been received. Hence these allegations have got credibility. It is noteworthy that former chief secretary of the state, Alapan Bandyopadhyay, Rajiv Kumar or police officer Surjit Kar Purkayat, all of them have been reinstated after their retirement in various posts in the state government. Governor Dhankhar has been vocal about this since the beginning. He has also termed those appointments as unconstitutional. However, the state has denied his allegations.

Thus, this trend of state-governor conflict has been going on for a long time. After coming to West Bengal as governor, Jagdeep Dhankhar started pointing out various flaws of Mamata Banerjee and her government. The State Government has repeatedly been embarrassed by the Governor’s comments or actions. The leaders of the ruling party have also countered this situation. And this time the Chief Minister directly complained to the Prime Minister.
