Mamta planning to visit Goa with Prashant Kishor’s I-PAC, clear to make sure coast for TMC entry

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Planning to go to Goa. And it’s not just for a beach vacation. The Trinamool Congress is gearing up for another election battle, and is trying to savor Goan fish curry instead of the usual ‘macher jhol’. The TMC is planning to take on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the coastal state where elections are due next year. Sources exclusively confirmed to News18 that a team of 200 people from election strategist Prashant Kishor’s Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) is working for the TMC in Goa.

Assembly elections are expected in the state around February 2022 and the Trinamool Congress is confident of making its presence felt.

Since the decisive victory over the BJP in the West Bengal assembly elections this year, Mamata and her party members have repeatedly talked about plans to expand Trinamool’s influence to other parts of the country ahead of the 2024 general elections. . A strong push is already visible in BJP-ruled Tripura, which will have elections in 2023.

TMC may soon send a team of its MPs to Goa to take stock of the ground. It has already held several meetings with some of the state leaders.

Mamata Banerjee’s nephew and Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee is also likely to visit Goa. After this the TMC chief will also visit and launch the campaign.

Why Goa, this question has been asked by many people. The TMC is vested in Bengal and has no presence in the coastal state, he said.

Goa has 40 assembly seats and is smaller than Tripura. In the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress had won 17 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party 13 seats. Despite this, BJP formed the government.

TMC sources said the party could take advantage of the fact that the Congress is weak in Goa. He said that the people of the state essentially voted against the BJP and it still came to power. He said the Trinamool would convince the residents of Goa that they can oust the BJP only if they vote for the TMC, otherwise legislators from other parties may switch to the saffron party even after the election results.

Trinamool will also present its demonstration in Bengal before the people of Goa.

Since the victory of the April-May assembly elections, the TMC has been trying to propagate the notion across the country that only Mamata Banerjee can stop the BJP’s electoral chariot. Abhishek Banerjee had also talked about his party’s national ambitions after being made general secretary in June.

Sources said TMC is looking at full bidding in Goa. He said if it manages to put up a strong showing, the Trinamool would have spread its influence from the eastern edge of the country to the western edge and could start projecting itself as the main national alternative to the BJP.

The eyes of Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party are also on Goa. Mamata Banerjee has good relations with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal. Observers said it would be interesting to see if the two sides manage to reach any sort of agreement on Goa.
