Mamta Banerjee won by huge margin in Bhawanipur by-election

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee won from her home constituency Bhawanipur by a margin of over 58,000 votes.

After her victory, Mamata Banerjee thanked the people of Bhabnipur and West Bengal for the election results.

He also said that the people of Bhabnipur have given a befitting reply to the conspiracy hatched in Nandigram.

According to the Election Commission, at 2 pm on Sunday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was leading by 45,738 votes in the Bhabnipur bypoll after the 17th round of counting.

The TMC is also leading in Murshidabad’s Samserganj and Jangipur constituencies, where the counting of votes for the assembly elections is underway.

According to official figures, Banerjee, the TMC candidate from Bhabnipur Assembly seat in South Kolkata, secured 67,620 votes after the 17th round of counting.

A total of 21 rounds of counting will take place in Bhabnipur.

In Samsarganj, TMC candidate Amirul Islam is leading by 3,768 votes after the fifth round of counting. He got 19,751 votes, while his nearest rival Congress’s Zaidur Rehman got 15,983 votes.

After the second round of counting, TMC candidate Zakir Hussain is leading by 15,643 votes from Jangipur. Hussain got 25,572 votes and his nearest rival BJP’s Sujit Das got 9,929 votes.

Voting on these seats was held on 30 September.

As soon as news of Banerjee’s massive leadership broke, TMC supporters took to the streets across the state to celebrate.

On the other hand, there was silence in the state offices of BJP and CPI(M).

Not celebrating victory: Chief Secretary to Election Commission

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has written to the Chief Secretary directing him to put a stop to victory celebrations and processions to prevent any incidents of post-poll violence.

Tibrewal on Saturday night wrote to Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal urging him to order the police to take preventive steps to avoid incidents of violence after the results are declared.

After Banerjee’s defeat in Nandigram, a state minister, Sovandeb Chattopadhyay, vacated the Bhabanipur seat to facilitate her return to the assembly.

The TMC had won the seat in the April-May assembly elections by a margin of around 28,000 votes.
