Mamata Banerjee Announces Z Plus Security for Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen

Bolpur: Amid allegations of “unauthorised possession” by Visva-Bharati against Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday handed over documents related to the land to him, saying “no one can question him” in future. . Banerjee, who reached Bolpur in the afternoon, met Sen at his residence and termed the allegations against him as baseless. The CM also announced that the Nobel laureate would be provided with ‘Z plus’ category security in future.

Banerjee said, “The allegations of land grab against him (Amartya Sen) are baseless. It is an attempt to malign his reputation. No one has the right to insult him. We will not tolerate it.”

“I respect Visva-Bharati, but condemn the attempts to saffronize the prestigious institution,” she said.
Visva-Bharati, in a letter last week, asked Sen to immediately hand over parts of the plot allegedly occupied by him in an “unauthorised manner” at Santiniketan.
