‘Mamata Banerjee a liar, proved before Calcutta HC’: BJP MP on post-poll violence, NHRC report

Kolkata: In a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Arjun Singh on Thursday termed the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo as a “liar”.

“Mamata Banerjee is lying and it has been proved before the Calcutta High Court as well,” he said.

The BJP leader highlighted the report of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel, which pulled up the TMC government over the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

“Mamata Banerjee said that there has been no violence after the election and the National Human Rights Commission is moving in the violence-affected areas as per the High Court directive and the court has ordered the police to protect the lives of the people. This is the difference between what Mamata Banerjee says and what the court says.

Continuing his outrage, the BJP leader alleged that fake Covid-19 vaccines are in vogue in West Bengal and the saffron party is opposing the same.

“Bharatiya Janata Party protest in front of Police Commissioner’s office over fake COVID-19 vaccination scam Despite the presence of heavy police personnel, some TMC goons came and attacked the protestors and those goons were none other than well-known criminals of the area,” Singh said.

He said, ‘Call it my misfortune or TMC’s good fortune, I got a little late in reaching or else TMC would have got a befitting reply in front of the Police Commissioner’s office today. Many of our workers including women and people of Yuva Morcha are injured. The police was watching the spectacle,” he said.

The BJP leader further said that the series of violence in West Bengal has now become unbearable.

“There is a term in Indian law called self defence, it applies to every man. Be it a small child or an officer. How long will we keep preaching that we love peace? Enough is enough now and I am openly challenging the Trinamool Congress that if anything happens to any of our workers in Barrackpore, we will agitate but within the ambit of the law.

Talking about the arrest of some terrorists in West Bengal, the BJP MP said that they will meet the commanding officer of the area in this regard, while the police is not able to handle the situation and military intelligence should be involved.

“Otherwise, people can be attacked at any time,” he said.

Singh also took a jibe at the remarks made by Trinamool Congress leaders that all is not well in the BJP.

“People are watching what is happening. Those who are leaving the BJP, somewhere they felt that the BJP would come to power in the state after the elections. Now, they are leaving because the party has not formed the government,” he said.
