Filmmaker Hemant G Nair’s upcoming film Higuita has been the talk of the town for the past few days. The film caused an uproar on social media due to the title of writer NS Madhavan’s short story Higuita of the same name. The Kerala Chamber of Film Commerce also rejected the title after writer NS Madhavan filed a complaint against its use. However, according to reports, the makers are not ready to give up the title and will go to court.

The latest development comes after a meeting between the producers of Higuita and the Kerala Chamber of Film Commerce. Higuita director Hemant G Nair was firm on his stand of not changing the title. As a result, the meeting failed. And, the Higuita title dispute is now all set to enter court.

Hemant spoke about the meeting in an interview with IANS. He said, ‘We showed Madhavan’s story and the script of our film and there is no similarity. Chamber officials asked us to take Madhavan’s permission to use the title. We have done no wrong, so now we will look for a legal solution to resolve this issue.”

In a previous interview, Hemant had expressed his opinion on the issue. He said that the response to the title of the film has been amazing since it was announced three years ago. The director also said that it is not possible to change the title of the film as it is in its post-production stage. He also clarified that the Malayalam film has nothing to do with NS Madhavan’s short story. According to Hemant, Higuita is a political satire, in which the protagonist tries to save his political party.
