Major bureaucratic reshuffle: Air India chairman Rajiv Bansal appointed aviation secretary

New Delhi: Initiating a major top-level bureaucratic reshuffle that ordered appointments to over a dozen key posts, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government on Wednesday appointed Air India Chairman Rajiv Bansal as Secretary in the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. .

Bansal, a 1988 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Nagaland cadre, will replace Pradeep Singh Kharola, who is retiring later this month.

Devendra Kumar Singh has been appointed as Secretary in the newly created Ministry of Cooperation. The 1989 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer previously served as Additional Secretary and Development Commissioner in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The government has Rajaraman has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Telecommunications. He will take over from Anshu Prakash, who is due to retire on September 30. Rajaraman is presently Additional Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) Vice-Chairman Anurag Jain has been appointed as Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

K Sanjay Murthy, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited, will be the Secretary, Department of Higher Education. The 1989 batch IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre will take over from Amit Khare, who is retiring on September 30.

In addition, Sunil Barthwal, who is currently the Central Provident Fund Commissioner in the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation, has been appointed as the Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Employment.

According to the order, Anuradha Prasad, Special Secretary in the Ministry of Labor and Employment, will be the Secretary of the Inter-State Council Secretariat of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Anusuli Arya, the administrator of Universal Service Obligation Fund, will be the secretary in the Department of Official Language.

Rajesh Agarwal will be the Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He is presently Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Lok Ranjan and Sujata Chaturvedi, who are currently serving as additional secretaries in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), will be the secretaries of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and Department of Sports, respectively.

The order further said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has also approved in-situ up-gradation of nine officers to the level of Special Secretary in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
