Data hack of Mailchimp accounts confirmed
The company has taken steps to help users safely restore access to their Mailchimp accounts by sending emails to affected accounts.
Mailchimp has admitted that it was hacked and data of at least 133 customers was exposed.
This is the second time in the last nine months that the company has been hacked.
“Based on our investigation so far, this targeted incident has been narrowed down to 133 Mailchimp accounts. “There is no evidence that this settlement affected Intuit systems or customer data beyond these Mailchimp accounts,” the company said in a statement.
The Mailchimp security team identified an unauthorized actor accessing one of their tools used by customer-facing teams for customer support and account administration.
“The unauthorized actor conducted a social engineering attack on Mailchimp employees and contractors, and gained access to select Mailchimp accounts using employee credentials compromised in that attack,” the company said.
After identifying evidence of a hacker, it temporarily suspends account access for Mailchimp accounts where it detects suspicious activity to protect our users’ data.
“We notified the primary contacts for all affected accounts on January 12, less than 24 hours after the initial discovery,” the company said in its latest statement.
The company has taken steps to help users safely restore access to their Mailchimp accounts by sending emails to affected accounts.
In April last year, hackers stole data from over 100 customers of Mailchimp after breaching its services, using the data to mount phishing attacks on users of the cryptocurrency platform.
The hackers were able to access nearly 300 Mailchimp user accounts and obtain audience data from 102 of them.
