Mahindra Thar SUV Reaches New Milestone, Records Sales Of 1 Lakh Units In India

Mahindra Thar is popularly known as one of the best budget off-roader SUVs in India, launched in August 2022. The car is currently sold with a starting price of Rs 10.54 Lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 16.77 Lakh (ex-showroom). , Perhaps, this is the reason why the Indian automaker is now celebrating 1 lakh unit sales in India. In addition, the SUV now has a 4×2 variant on sale in India to help boost sales of the model.

Mahindra Thar is also one of the SUVs with the longest waiting period in India. The off-roader SUV comes with a waiting period of up to 17 months depending on the variant of the car. For the diesel versions of the Thar 4×2, the waiting period is exactly 17 months. On the other hand, there is only a short waiting period for fuel trims – about a month.

A 1.5L CRDe engine that generates 117 BHP and 300 Nm torque (87.2 kW@3500 rpm) mated to a manual gearbox powers the diesel version of the RWD series. While a 2.2L mStallion 150 TGDi engine, mated to an automatic gearbox, powers the petrol model of the RWD range, producing 150 BHP and 320 Nm of torque (112 kW@5000 rpm).

Additionally, the 4WD version now has a refined Electronic Brake Locking Differential which engages more quickly. It was built with Bosch and will make it easier for off-road enthusiasts to handle low-traction scenarios. The LX diesel 4WD model will offer Mechanical Locking Differential (MLD) as an option for those that still support it.

There has been no change in the selection of 4WD powertrains. It is powered by 2.2L mHawk 130 diesel engine that produces 130 bhp power and 300 Nm torque and 2.0L mStallion 150 TGDi petrol engine that produces 150 bhp power and 320 Nm torque. Both a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 6-speed manual gearbox are available with these engines.
