Mahindra & Mahindra former chairman Keshub Mahindra passes away at 99, India Inc condoles

Keshab Mahindra, Chairman Emeritus of Mahindra & Mahindra, passed away at the age of 99 in Mumbai on Wednesday. A person close to the family said that he breathed his last peacefully at home this morning.

A graduate of Wharton, University of Pennsylvania, USA, Mahindra joined the company in 1947, the year India became independent. Nearly two decades later, he took over as the Speaker in 1963. Mahindra was the president of SIAM in 1964.

He was one of the oldest Indian industrialists who headed one of the oldest automobile conglomerates in the country – Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M).

It was during his reign of nearly 50 years, that the M&M Group entered into other business ventures such as information technology, financial services, hospitality and others.

Vinod Agarwal, president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), said in a statement that the Indian automobile industry has lost one of its pioneers.

“His leadership in the early years of the Indian auto industry’s journey recognized India as an important player globally and helped India become a manufacturing hub for the automobile sector,” he added.

“SIAM and the Indian automobile industry condole the demise of a true visionary and pray for the eternal peace of the departed soul,” Agarwal said.

Expressing his condolences, Uday Kotak, CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank said, “Keshav Mahindra: You led the building of an independent India with values ​​and purpose. You touched our lives with grace, dignity and dignity. Words” Mahindra stands for “Trust and Integrity. Which we will always cherish and protect.”

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said, “A century of unbroken integrity and values. We will not deviate from that path.”
